Shanna B. Tiayon, PhD, also known as “The Wellbeing Dr.” is a Social Psychologist and the owner of Wellbeing Works, LLC a boutique consulting firm focused on employee wellbeing.

She has a diverse professional background ranging from international development to academia.

From 2001-2003 Shanna was a Peace Corps Volunteer in francophone Cameroon, Africa. She later went on to hold a 12-year career in the field of international development either managing human resources and administration departments for NGO’s in Sub Saharan Africa (Chad, Uganda and Rwanda) or providing senior consultative HR services.

Shanna has a PhD in Sociology with a specialization in Social Psychology. While in academia a large body of her research focused on physical and mental health disparities, with a particular interest in mood disorders (i.e. depression and bipolar disorder) and obesity. As a pre-doctoral candidate Shanna was awarded a prestigious National Science Foundation and Ford Foundation pre-doctoral fellowship.

As the owner and Chief Wellbeing Practitioner of Wellbeing Works, LLC, Shanna designs and facilitates trainings globally on topics of wellbeing and mental health in the workplace and  partners with clients to create better workplaces through employee wellbeing focused initiatives and research.

To buffer her work in the wellbeing space Shanna writes and speaks on topics of wellbeing and the ways we may infringe upon the wellbeing of others. She’s a TEDx speaker and her writing has appeared in Greater Good Magazine, Yes Magazine, The Guardian, Narratively, Food and Wine, Longreads and Sojourners. Her 2019 Longreads piece won a Best American Travel Writing award.

When she’s not tackling work in the wellbeing space she’s homesteading in the DC Metropolitan area with her family.
